The client was a family of four that were in a new phase of their lives. The children had grown up and out of wanting to play on the lawn and family gatherings started to congregate more around the fire place. As a result of the orientation of their backyard and a wind tunnel effect, created by the surrounding structures, the fire place wasn’t fit for purpose and neither was their backyard. This change of needs for a maturing family drove the design brief.
